Hi Serge,
sorry for the late replay, I havn’ t noticed that you have written a new commet (my spamfilter was a little bit to strict). We need a more detailed description of your problem, are there any error messages…
August 26th, 2007 at 5:22 am
Hi
I have to tell you, your program smartbar is excelent. I havent found anything near to solving frames for a ti 89 T. I do have one problem, I have followed the manual steps but for some reason when I do my model and add the lods and run the program, it appears as if it had no loads in it and says there is zero forces and displacements. I dont know if I am doing something wrong, I tried to look for a example manual or a FAQ but couldnt find them.

Hi Vic,
I will try to republish the examples in the next few days.

hi
same problem as Vic, i add the loads but when i run the program there is zero forces…help please!
thanks!
September 21st, 2007 at 2:12 am
Hey….When I need to put a puntual force in an element I am obligated to put a node there. For some reason, even though I do not put hinges The program thinks The moments have to be zero there when I only put hose nodes to put a foce in it. Is there another way to put a foce on a element without creating a node??
September 21st, 2007 at 9:29 am
Hi vic ,hi cri,
sorry, but there is no other way to create a nodal force.
here is the link to an old example
http://www.smart-programs.org/smartbars/sbexpl01.html
if that example don’t solve your problems please send an e-mail to bernhard.valentini@smart-programs.org

Hello!
I have the same poblem with smartbars, When I create a beam with different loads and then press calculate, the moment and the lateral force diagram says “forces are zero ”
This is kind of weird beacause I just looked at the example you recomended, and it worked perfectly, I got the axial lateral moment and defomation diagram perfectly.
Then I tries to input the same beam with an addicional element load and it said again “forces are zero”.
I also downloaded the program again from http://www.smart-programs.org and forces are still zero. Please Help me
Thanks
October 8th, 2007 at 6:02 am
Sorry, in my last message I forgot telling you what calculator I have, I have the Voyage 200. I tried with the Spanish and the English version and It keeps saying “forces are zero” when I request the diagrams.
Thanks for your attention

question on smart bars>> I have entered a normal beam with 5 spans, and applied a simple element load in the +ve global Z direction and moments are zero? It works when I calculate for 1 span, but not when I have additional spans?? I have been through your examples and nothing..
thank you

Send me the input file or make a drawing and I’ll take a look at it.

Question on Smartbars : I ‘ve found that if you have solved a problem and then you try to edit the sections and recalculate you get the “Forces are Zero ” message. Perhaps i’m doing something wrong but i’ve tried it several times and i haven’t managed to make it work.
thank you for this great program
November 6th, 2007 at 12:15 am
I forgot to mention that i was refering to a problem with more than 1 sections
November 7th, 2007 at 8:15 am
Bernhard
Just try an example with 5 varying spans or greater, say 5m, 7m, 7m ,7m, 5m with a constant element load throughout (11kN/m), same steel section, support at ends of each span only free to rotate in y-direction. and let me know if you get results.
Is there a limit on the number of span?
Thank you in advanced
SP
November 14th, 2007 at 10:47 am
to SP:
Your five spans structure works without errors.
The program has “no” limit in spans. But it is limited by the available memory for storing the equation system. I think the maximum nodes you may input is about 25 (with three degree of freedom).
to Panos Mavrogiorgos:
Yes, the edit (and delete) routine seems to have some bugs.
WARNINGS FROM THE SMART-PROGRAMS TEAM TO ALL USERS:
- DON’T USE THE EDIT AND DELETE FUNCTIONS IN SMART-BARS 2.50 UNTIL A NEW VERSION IS RELEASED.
- DON’T USE THE COMPOSITE SECTION FUNCTION IN SMART-SECTION 2.50 UNTIL A NEW VERSION IS RELEASED.

i have one problem with smartbar
i started smartbar() but ti-89 give me message:error loading sbinput dll.
What is wrong, please help me.
November 29th, 2007 at 10:16 am
I think you have to less free RAM (and) or you have forgotten to ARCHIEVE the Smart-Programs files. -> Take a look in the manual for further information.

December 27th, 2007 at 1:21 am
Yes, you have to update your AMS version.
Go to the TI-eduction site and download it there.

I wanted to extend the element sections database to include more commonly used steel sections. The syntax seems pretty straight forward, but I can’t seem to edit the database file, in fact, I can’t even open it. What editor is appropriate for doing this? Thanks.
P.S. This is an awesome program! Thank you for creating it.
January 7th, 2008 at 11:27 am
I think you should be able to edit it on your calculator with a text editor.

hi

Oktober 2007) nachvollziehen.
English: It’s possible to calculate n-time statically indeterminate structures with Smart-Bars.
The usage of hinges can be seen in the examples (take a look at the posting at October 11th above).

Hi Bernhard,
[2nd]+[left]+[right]+[on] danach war wieder alles gut.

February 29th, 2008 at 10:01 am

gruss thomas
March 1st, 2008 at 12:34 pm

(It’ possible to combine beam and truss elements in one system.)

March 3rd, 2008 at 11:01 am
Nein, da der Fachwerkstab keine Kopplung der Momente zulässt.

March 4th, 2008 at 12:38 am
March 4th, 2008 at 12:41 am
March 4th, 2008 at 12:32 pm

March 5th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
March 5th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
March 5th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
dieser fehler kommt bei einem hängewerk
March 6th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
“habe einen stab mit einem EI=400000 und EA unendl. was gebe ich am besten ein? (E=3*10^7):”
-> das hängt von der Größe des Systems ab bzw. muss ausgetestet werden. Da gibt es keinen allgemein gültigen Wert.
“wenn ich eine sehr kleines A (0.001) eingebe dan stimmt das momentenbild überhaupt nicht mehr (stat. unbe. n=2)! wie komme ich auf ein passendes A? (möchte nur die M-Verformung berücksichtigen)”
-> wie zuvor: ausprobieren
“was bedeutet GL.-System nicht lösbar bei einem System?”
-> Das bedeutet, dass das System kinematisch verschieblich ist, oder das Gleichungssystem der Struktur numerisch instabil ist.
“dieser fehler kommt bei einem hängewerk”
-> Ich gehe davon aus, dass du etwas falsch eingegeben hast, sodass die Struktur kinematisch verschieblich ist (ein kinematisch verschieblicher Knoten reicht dazu schon aus).

If there are zero forces in the results, you probably made an error during the input.

Did you copy them into the folder “main” on your calculator?
Did you ARCHIVE all Smart-Bars files?

Installed the HW3PATCH on my TI89 Titanium; copy the files to a folder called “sbar”; typed setfold(sbar); typed smartbar(). It prompted me with ERROR: Variable or Flash application in use.
April 3rd, 2008 at 7:24 am
hey, also, I tried to remove all the file and retransfer the file. But, i am unable to delete “smartbar”. It gives me an “USB communication error: No rights (8C080010)”
Hope you can help…
April 3rd, 2008 at 9:37 am
Try to reset your calculator and remove all batteries (large and small ones) and install the programs again. Take care all data will be lost!
Try to keep Smart-Bars in your main directory, because otherwise it won’t work correctly.

hi thanx 4 make smart programs..
i’m using your program very thanxfully..
but sometimes, after i analysis structure, right-down side massage window says that “Crash : intercepted ” displaied and can’t operate smartbar.. and with popup massage, “variable or Flash application in use” plz help me~~
cf) my calculater is “TI-89t” and hwversion is 4.0 OS 3.10 preos is 1.0.4
April 4th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Preos protects your calculator in the case when Smart-Bars crashes, but I think Smart-Bars is in such a case not really finished. The only possibility in such a case to be sure that it works again is to reset the calculator. Take care all data will be lost!
To avoid such errors once more:

Hi, do you know how to downgrade the OS in a TI-89 because i just bought a new one that comes with OS v3.10 and AMS 4.00. The problem is that smartbars can’t run with this software. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Please send me the example in which you expect an error.
ad Faoysvac:
Try to ask at http://tigcc.ticalc.org/ or http://mobifiles.bytefox.de/ . They should know best how to make a downgrade and if it’s really necessary.

Very Good Your program. Congratulations.
One questions.
The angle in support, were specify?, Whats?.
Thank You
April 17th, 2008 at 10:30 am
The rotation angle of the supports is specified in the dialog box afterwards you have input the fixed and free degrees of freedom. (The rotation angle has to be input in radians).

I’m waiting your autorization before make the download. If you wan i can make special category “smart programs” in download page.
thanks for your time enrico spoletini

At hpuser:
- At http:\\www.hpcalc.org there are also very good structural analysis programs (FEM48/49, LARCH, …) for HP-calculators.
At enrico:
- If your site is not commercial and everyone can download our programs for free, you have our authorization for a “Smart-Programs download page”. Just make a link to our site and tell us your site address. Problems with Smart-Programs should be discussed on our site, so it’s easier for us to keep the track of possible errors.

Hy I have a problem.. when i’am trying to enter different kind of section for example editing the Area or Iy or Height.. and i’m going to calculate it ;the programs say that all forces are zero… moment or lateral or axial forces are all zero.. the diagram will be displayed only with this values Area:0.0148 Iy:0.002517 Height: 0.3 that correspond Heb300… Where is the mistake?
April 30th, 2008 at 10:15 am
Try to check which data you really input:
So, input your data once again and then go to the menu in Smart-Bars and take a look at the data you input -> Edit -> List -> Sections. Please tell me the result.

Bernhard Valentini
April 30th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
Each times I edit the section with an other value (for example HEB300 to–> HEB600 i choose them from database) in the structure under each elements appear a strange symbol similar to S or a 5, first it was simply S1.. and then I’m trying to calculate the structure, the program say the Force are Zero.. before the editing sections, the program worked well and solved the structures..
but if the program say “the forces are zero” that means the structure that the degree of liberty is > degree of bond (instable structure) ?? is that the real meaning of “the forces are zero”? what is the relation with the sections??
Thanks for the help!
April 30th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
The meaning of “S” is section. So “S1″ is an element with section number 1 and “S2″ would be an element with section number 2.
“the forces are zero” means, that either the forces are really zero, or the calculated forces are next to zero. The second case could happen through a wrong input (instable structure, elastic modulus st to “ABC” instead of a number, …) or through an error in the program.
To solve the problem, please send me your data you input (step by step explaination) and I will try to reproduce the error.
Best regards

Dear Smarbars 2.5 Users:
I’ve just installed Smartbars 2.5 (the version shown in this site)
But it seems I am doing something wrong, or something is missing. By the way my calculator is a Ti 89 Ti:
First I installed the Hw3patch, then I installed the autoaoff. And no problema was reported at that time, since once I installed each one it appeared on the home screen Hw3patch(. Then I just closed the parenthesis ) for both cases.
But when I started transferring the Smartbar 2.5 files from the PC to the calc., which files are shown as follows:
sbarhelp.89T (Downloadable to the calc.)
sbarhelp.9XT (Downloadable to the calc.)
sbarhelp.V2T (Downloadable to the calc.)
sbcalc1.89y, sbcalc1.9xy, sbcalc1.v2y
sbinput.89y, sbinput.9xy, sbinput.v2y
sbmatdb.89t (Downloadable to the calc.)
sbmatdb.9xt (Downloadable to the calc.)
sbmatdb.v2t (Downloadable to the calc.)
sboutput.89y, sboutput.9xy, sboutput.v2y
sbpic01.89i, sbpic01.9xi, sbpic01.v2i
sbpic02.89i, sbpic02.9xi, sbpic02.v2i
sbpic03.89i, sbpic03.9xi, sbpic03.v2i

sbsecdb.v2t (Downloadable to the calc.)
smartbar.89z (Downloadable to the calc.)
smartbar.9xz (Downloadable to the calc.)
smartbar.v2z (Downloadable to the calc.)
When I transferred the first file “sbarhelp.89T” I received no message, but when I transferred the second file “sbarhelp.9XT” I recieved the message Do you want to replace, rename or skip this file?
It seems that the calc. does not tell the difference between 2 files with the same name but with different extension. What should I do in this case?
And it happened over and over for those files which name were the same, but with different extension.
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated?
When I access to the Var-Link Screen it shows these files, (Smarbar 2.5):
MAIN:
Autoaoff ASM 2035
hw3patch ASM 1311
sbarhelp TEXT 5832
sbmatdb TEXT 467
sbpic01 PIC 507
sbpic02 PIC 507
sbpic03 PIC 507
sbsecdb TEXT 410
.
.
.
Smartbar ASM 1891
As you see, it seems I am missing several files. At least, it is what I think.
As I have read in some fora (Spanish) I should have these files in my calc.:
sbcalc1.dll
sbinput.dll
sboutput.dll
sbmain.dll
Should I?
Hoping some assistance, I remain.

For the TI89T you may ONLY install the files with the extension 89?. The others are for V200 (v2?) and TI92+ (9x?).

To uninstall Smart-Programs, just delete all Smart-Program files.
There is no real installation done - the files are just executed and no data is written so the calculators’ system.

To reset the Flash-ROM:
2nd+MEM -> reset -> Flash ROM -> Archive
Take care - all data in the Flash ROM will be lost!!!
If it doesn’t work, try to reset the RAM too:
2nd+MEM -> reset -> RAM -> All RAM

June 5th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Hi, once again Bernhard!
I think I figured out what’s the problem with mi calc. As I see all the Smarbar files, despite they are under the MAIN folder, they were actually “installed” in a folder named HI, which is in the MAIN folder, so when I go to the Var-Link screen and I select each Smartbar file, the status bar shows HI instead of MAIN.
Question 1: How should I transfer the Smartbar files (already installed) from the HI folder to the MAIN folder?
Question 2: In case that I delete all the Smartbar files and decide to install them again: How do I do in order to directly transfer them to the MAIN folder?
In my humble opion, it is the problem.
I have some screenshots that I would like you to see in order to verify my hypothesis.
If possible this is my email address (maburto@excite.com) so I can send you the screenshots.
Once again thank very much in advance.

Manuel A.

Dear Bernhard:
I do know that being receiving lots of messages with, sometimes silly questions, its quite annoying, but I just need some additional assistance.
It turns out that rather than having the current folder in MAIN I had it in HI (another folder)
Firstly, I set the MAIN folder as Current Folder.
Then, I uninstalled or deleted all the Smartbar 2.5 files. and installed them again. No problem, but when I go to the Home screen and type Smartbar() I get the message DONE but in the status bar it says “Requiring HW3PATCH”
Before installing the for the very first time the Smartbar files, I installed the hw3patch and the autoaoff files. Now that I have reinstalled the Smartbar files I receive this message. If you go to the Var-Link screen, you can see the Autoaoff & hw3patch files installed.
I have a doubt, should I archive both (Autoaoff & hw3patch) files before running the Smartbars?
Anny suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Best Regards,
Manuel Aburto
PS: If it is possible sending you the screenshots (5) just let me know.

ad Sina:
When you make a reset of your Flash-ROM it may be possible that you loose the Flash-programs. So make a backup, then reset your calculator, copy the Smart-Programs files in the main folder, archive the Smart-Programs files (not only lock them) and then it should be possible to run the programs.
ad Manuel Aburto:
Yes, just send me the screenshots (bernhard “dot” valentini “at” smart-programs “dot” org).
You have to unarchive the Smart-Bars files, copy them to the main directors, delete them in the old directory, archive them again and it should work. Try to install the hw3-patch again if it does not work. I don’t know if it’s really necessary to archive the hw3-patch.

Hi, Bernhard:
It’s me again, Manuel. As I told you before I finally installed Smartbars. But today I was trying to make an exercise and when I ordered it to Calculate it returned a message:

But no matter how many times I press ESC, the same message remains on my screen.
What can I do to leave that message.

Hey Bernhard!
Is it posible to calculate elements such as quarter of a circle like on this picture: http://static.mojefotke.si/ba4817f47e7654dd6b89535d7d7e1bdacb4b191d.jpg
and if yes, how?
Thanks!

No, it’s not possible to make a circle element, but you could make a polygonal approximation with straight beam elements.

Dear Bernhard:
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your advise. Actually I had to remove the SR- battery, because no matter what I did I couldn´t turn it off. Any negative implication of removing the 4 AAA bats plus the SR bat in order to reset the calculator?
Another question: Yesterday I was working on the Smartbar. I created a truss and saved it. Then I turn the calc. off. Later on when I turn it on and I tried to start the Smartbars (SB), I received this message:
“Flash application in use” but I could´t enter to the SB, then I had to remove all the batteries.
Do you know what could be the cause of this problem. I mean saving a file, but then you’re not able to enter the SB?
One more time, I would appreciate your comments.

Manuel

Dear Bernhard:
First I want to thank for the excellent programs that you share with everyone and are very useful, then apologize for my poor English.
The question is whether there is any programme for TI89t similar to smart-bars but working in 3 dimensions, so an example for HP there is a program called FEM working with finite elelemts
What i need is a program who calculates displacement and twists in 3-dimensional structures,.
In summary would be a program like smart bars but working in 3 dimensions

ad Manuel Aburto:
As far as I know, the only negative effect of a reset is, that you loose all your data on your calculator. “Flash application in use” - either you did an error during the input again or the error from before the reset is still there (try to remove the batteries for some hours).

Once I saw a 3D structural analysis program on http://www.ticalc.org - take a look there.

Hi Mr. Bernhard, my name is Claudio, I’m from Brazil and I am studying to become a robotic engineering. I came upon your program by lucky and I gotta tell you, it is more than I expected.
I’m having only one problem, for any section profile a use, the static moment is different than the answer in my book. I’m current using Hibbeler’s Mechanics of materials.
Can you tell me what is the default point of the section that the program calculates the SM?
It is possible to specify a different point for the calculation?
The SM I need is in relation to the “y” axis.
Thank you very much. And congratulations on your work, it is very impressive.
Sorry about the English, not my first language.
June 29th, 2008 at 4:23 am
Hi, It’s me again. It is possible, using smartbars, to put a moment around “x” axis?
I need to calculate the shear stress in circular sections with that type of moment.
Thanks man!
June 30th, 2008 at 10:24 am
The static moment is calculated with respect to the global y-z coordinate system. For profiles made with the section generator, the origin of this coordinate system lies at the intersection of a line through the most left and a line through the lowest point of the section (left lower corner). If you are not sure, take a look in the node list where the coordinates y=0 and z=0 represent the origin of the global coordinate system.
It’s not possible to put a moment around the x-axis.
Best regards
Bernhard Valentini
June 30th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Thanks for the answer, but I still have one question. It is possible to calculate the static moment in reference to another point? If yes, how can I do it?
July 1st, 2008 at 9:57 am
It’s only possible by changing the origin of the coordinate system - the point with coordinate y=0 and z=0. Otherwise it’s not possible to set a reference point.

hi mr.bernhard
I have once inputed a structure in smartbar and the solution came out great, but now, without any obvious reason (at least for me), the same structure or any other struture keeps sending the same result “forças nulas” or in english “forces are zero” in every field.

I have sent you an email with more details of my problem

I am looking forward for you answering me!
Thank you!

Normally it’s an error by the user. So read the above posts or give me more information (send me an e-mail with a detailed description of the problem and a picture of the structure).

First of all, your program smart-bar is excelent!
” 11.6.1 Calculation
Very short introduction:
The calculation of the structure follows the stiffness matrix method. The program builds up the global stiffness matrix K and the global load vector P of the whole structure. Then the program solves the equation:
v = K-1.P ”
I just wanted to know if is possible to view the stiffness matrix K??
It would help me a lot..
Thanks
July 14th, 2008 at 9:48 am
No, it’s not possible to view the stiffness matrix and it wouldn’t be useful without the association to the numbering of the degrees of freedom.

hi dear bernard
thank u for your very good program(smartbars)
as we look for the results we se or example deformations at 1/3 steps
i wanna ask u if it is possible to see the result of deformation at any coordination we want or not.
and the second question is if you can add another quality for your program in which it could calculate the results in both numbers and letters:(i mean if we input a letter E and letter A,and letter I it calculate the result in terms of these three parameters)

Dear Bernhard,
I have followed all the instructions provided in the user’s guide of the Smartbar in order to install and run the software:
1. I created a folder “sbar”
2. I transferred the files of the Smartbar to this folder “sbar”.
3. I set the fold using the command “setfold(sbar)”.
4. I tried to run the software using the command “smartbar()”.
However, when I do the last step (4), the following error appears in the screen of my Voyage 200:
“Error loading sbinput.dll”
Then the software does not run.
May you help me please with this issue?
Thank you very much.

The problem is, that since the databases were added, Smart-Bars can only be run from the “main” directory, because otherwise these databases are not found. I’m sorry that the explaination is wrong in the manual.
Hence copy all Smart-Bars files to the “main” directory and start it from there.

Hello Bernhard,
Thanks for your response. I did the stuff that you suggested me, however, the problem continues and the same error ““Error loading sbinput.dll” as well.
Perhaps, I have missed a step or I have not understood any instruction from the manual to install the software. Particularly, in the step Installation of the manual, what do you mean with the instruction ARCHIEVE, not only lock all files? I have just transferred the files from the PC to my calculator, but I have not done anything related to this command ARCHIEVE, perhaps this is the problem, or not?.
Thank you very much.
Eric Forcael.
September 2nd, 2008 at 2:24 am
Oh, “Error loading sbinput.dll” was the error message … that’s something completely different.
You have to ARCHIVE all Smart-Bars files within the var-link on your calculator, otherwise there is not enough free RAM to run the program. Then the files should be marked with a dot (star) in front.

Hi, i have got a questian about smartbar, i need for a procedural a Moment with a size “1″ in front of a hinge and behind it, but i don´t know how to creat that
How can i solve that?
Also hab 1 Frage, euch sagt bestimmt das Kraftgößenverfahren was.
October 18th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
You have to make a small element (nb. 2) with a hinge at the position of the node where you want to make the double moment of size “1″. The element length should be small compared to the characteristic length of the structure (for example 1/1000 of the element length). Then you can make the double moment at the left and right node of the small element (nb. 2).
*——–1——–*-2-O*——–3———*
* … node
-?- … element
O … hinge
The result should be a adequate approximation to your problem.

So, musst i archive on onother way? can u please tell me the way to archive its right?

You have to ARCHIVE all Smart-Bars files within the “var-link”-program on your calculator, otherwise there is not enough free RAM to run the program. Enter the var-link, mark all Smart-Bars files and archive them with “manage -> archive variables”. Then the files should be marked with a dot (star) in front.

hi dear Bernhard;
i got problem with SMARTBAR;
during the calculation it was stopped and the never work,i waited for an hour and it didn`t work! so i scooped the main battery first and BIOS battery then; it worked again but i had to restore it with back up(i took a back up before);
and when i tried to use Smartbar again,it didn`t work!!!
BUT the MAIN problem is not that!!!!!
*** now it is hanged its screen is always turned on and it just shows some words (like smartbar on left and 2ND and FUNC on bottom) and i cann`t turn it off!!
*** i cannot turn it off also by scooping BIOS battery!!!!
*** also i tried to reset it with 2ND+MEM but it didn`t worked and never showed anything!!!
***when i connect it to PC ,its folders are launched but again it`s hanged.
i dont know what to do
please help me dear Friend

The only way I know is to remove ALL batteries for several hours. That’s the only thing I know :(. Maybe updating the Operation System (OS) could help, but that’s just a guess.

hey bernhard, i got a problem with smartbars, first of all, when i transfer all files to my ti 89 (HW 2.9) it seems i’m missing a file (sbmain.dll). When i write the command “smartbar()” it starts the program but inmediatly it stops workin and i have to reset the calc.
Thanks
November 26th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
There is no “sbmain.dll”. So check the files which you uploaded on your calculator with those in the manual. Take care, that you don’t miss one file because you have to less free RAM. So copy some files to your calculator, ARCHIVE them, and then copy the rest and ARCHIVE them too.

Ok, i found the problem, i archive all 3 dlls files. But like i said before, when i run the program it shows the smat bars image, and inmediatly it stops working, like if it were busy, and i have to reset the calc before using the program. I installed hw3patch and autooff first, and nothing happens, and i archive all the files too.
Please help me Bernhard
Thanks

- Do you have enough free RAM? (~100 kb)
- Did you copy the files for the TI89 (and not the files for the TI92+ or V200) to your calculator?
- Do you have all Smart-Bars files in the “main” directory?
- If you have Smart-Bars save files on your calculator, delete them (all Smart-Bars files which you did not explicitly copy to your calculator).

Ok, I finally installed smart bars, now i can use it without a problem. But i don’t know how to make an element load, because when i make one it looks like there’s no load on the element. Thanks Bernhard
November 28th, 2008 at 12:46 am
First of all, please tell us how the problem was solved.
Second, please read the manual for a better understanding of the element loads.
I would guess that you input the element load in the direction of the axis of the element itself, or you generated an element load on a not existing element.
If you can’ solve the problem, send me an email with the input file or a more detailed desciption of the input procedure.

Tag Herr Valentini,
December 12th, 2008 at 2:07 am
The menu entry “spring” (Feder) can be used by hinges (Gelenke) and for supports (Auflager). So, you can define a hinge with a spring (Federgelenk) or a support with a spring (Auflagerfeder) with each defined spring.
To your second question: The coefficient of thermal expansion has the unit [1/K] that’s right. A coefficient with unit [m/K] would be a “coefficient of thermal elongation”. I don’t know if this coefficient makes sense.

Hallo Bernhard!

Check which OS-version you have, maybe it’s not compatible with the Hw3-patch.

sorry its probably a elemental question….
February 11th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Do you get any error message in the status line on the bottom of the screen?
Did you copy all files too your calculator?
Did you archive all files?
Do you have enough free RAM?
Do you have the right folder (the “main” folder) active?
“smartbar()” is the right instruction to start Smart-Bars!

Hi,
How manu nodes and elements this program can support?I tried to input more than 30 elements but program shows error,so if there is any chance to input more than 30 nodes and elements, how can I do that? Thanks
February 21st, 2009 at 12:09 pm
I think the limit is at about 20 to 25 nodes. That’s a restriction from the available memory (RAM) of the calculator which is used to store matrices and vectors of the equation system of the structural analysis.
Sorry, there is no way to increase the number of nodes above this limit.

hi, i have a problem with the temperature and the Displacement, the results of structure when i put them give another result. I have a portuguese version.
Another situation ocurs when i put the manual values, the stucture dosn’t calculate, error apear.(1.*).
Thanks to resolve this.
Fantastique program.

Please give me more information. A detailed description of what you input and the way you did the input (step by step).

Bernhard Valentini
April 28th, 2009 at 10:43 am
for example if you have a isostatic structure you put upper -10ºC and lower 20ºC and you calculate the moment of that structure, give a diferent moment, not the real moment. The displacement, when you put a x and y displacement with forces the total moment is not that moment.example a portic,:
nodes:(x,y)=node1(0,0);node2(0,-6);node3(10,-6);node4(10,-2).
Material and section any one.
support -node 1 fix(x,y,z) — node4(free-x,fix-y,free-z), put the force in node 2 fx=100kn, displacement node 1 x=2mm;y=5mm.
calculate.
the moment result ins not that moment.
April 28th, 2009 at 11:07 am
if you want i have a mail, and i put the results there.
the temperature i think is a signal, when you calculate n*alfa*areaN, i think that is the problem, the displacement i dont know what appens, but the error may be me!!!
April 30th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Take care:
Even for isostatic systems the theory behind the structural analysis program has to be fulfilled:
Deformations small compared to the cross-section dimensions and strains << 1.
Hence if you input cross-section values which violate the theory (too small or too large), you get wrong results in the case of statically indeterminate systems.

Hi,
Mfg Benny
August 28th, 2009 at 10:41 am
Best regards
Bernhard Valentini
August 28th, 2009 at 11:30 am
schonmal vielen Dank

August 28th, 2009 at 7:47 pm

hi,after i have installed the nodes i try to put the material but it shows me “no database found” message.what do i do wrong?

Dear Bernhard or Titanium Users:
I am a civil engineering student. I am currently taking my last semester at college, and I am taking Earthquake Resistant Engineering. I have an exercise in which I have to find the value of a variable in a matrix detailes as follows:
.— —.
5-0.408y -2.5 0.
. -2.5 3.5-0.408y 1.
.0 -1 1.
.— —-
The answer I must obtain at the end is y3 - 25.73y2 + 157.57y -183.82=0
the I must obtain the cubic root. I already know how to use the cubic root.
in which I must find the value of Y. Now my question is do you know the command and argument in the Ti89Ti to introduce the matrix and the possible argument?
Since it is a very long, long, long exercise we are allowed to use the calc.
October 20th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
The ma trix I’ve just posted is:
5-0.408y -2.5 0
-2.5 3.50-0.408y -1
0 -1 1
October 20th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Here I go again
5-0.408y [space] -2.5 [space] 0.
. -2.5 [space] 3.5-0.408y [space] 1.
.0 [space] -1 [space] 1.
October 21st, 2009 at 12:29 am
I don’t understand the question.
Do you want to solver an equation without a right hand side or do you want to find the eigenvalues of those matrix or … ?
Is this one the right matrix or the other two matrices?
5-0.408y_____-2.5_________0
-2.5______3.50-0.408y_____-1
0____________-1__________1

Dear Bernard:
Firstly thanks in advance for any assistance you may provide.
You are right the matrix is the one you wrote.
So if you see it is in terms of y and I need to find a polynomial equation, which according to the problem would be:
Y3 – 25.73y2 + 157.57y – 183.82 = 0
Then I have to find the 3 values
Y1
Y2
Y3
since it is a cubic equation, but I know how to come to said values, the problem is that I do not know how to enter the information to come to the answer : Y3 – 25.73y2 + 157.57y – 183.82 = 0
Do you know how to?
Thanks in advance
October 21st, 2009 at 10:41 am
I’ve tried some expressions with Maple but to my mind it makes no sense with the “y” in the matrix.

Hallo Bernhard,
wie kann ich eigentlich Pendelstäbe eingeben?
February 4th, 2010 at 11:16 am
Bernhard Valentini
February 6th, 2010 at 4:20 pm
February 7th, 2010 at 7:04 pm

Vielen Dank.
February 13th, 2010 at 12:31 pm
Grundsätzlich ist dies nicht möglich. Man könnte jedoch in einzelnen Knoten Lasten abwechselnd aufbringen und somit zumindestens eine punkteweise Einflußlinie generieren.

Hallo,
February 26th, 2010 at 2:04 am
http://www.tigen.org/kevin.kofler/ .

hi
I have problem with my smartbar. Program calculate my construction normally, but when I want to go back on impute it warn “error address”.
I think that this error begins when I accidentally save my results.
I already deleted all memory and installed program, but it is still reporting the error.
May 10th, 2010 at 11:20 pm
Try to reset your calculator and remove all batteries (large and small ones for several hours) and install the programs again. Take care all data will be lost!
Try to keep Smart-Bars in your main directory, because otherwise it won’t work correctly.
Read the “Known bugs” section on the Smart-Bars site.

Congratulation for your amazing softwares! I have a problem:
I have to input a “O” section with the following characteristics:
re=40mm , ri=38mm ,steel with E=195GPa .
I calculated I=0.000000372957 m^4 , A=0.00049 m^2 ,E=195000000 N/m^2.
The problem is that the software take I=0 and gives 0 Foces as result.
How can i solve this?Thx for all!
July 15th, 2010 at 9:50 am
Try to input all values in “mm” or “cm” instead of “m”. Just think the input would require “mm” or “cm” instead of “m” for every input. But take care, ALL lengths and combined units with length (e.g. “kN/m^2″ -> “kN/mm^2″) have to input in “mm” or “cm”.
