I have TI nspire CAS and I wanna know if there’s any way to get smartbars for these calculator or any similar program. Thank’s really great website

  2. Bernhard Says:

No, there is no chance to run Smart-Bars on the Ti-nspire, because as far as I know, the Ti-nspire does not support any assembler languages.

  3. Castigliano Says:

Congrtulatios this are the best programs to engineers keep workin.

  4. marziyeh Says:

hi, how can i download this program?

  5. marziyeh Says:

    thank you i found it!

forgot what to write to open the program. i tryed smartbar() like the pdf says but nothing hapens. i think it was something like exec smartbar() but i can’t remember. can anyone help me,please?

  7. joao Says:

TI also have nspire CAS because my ti92 + broke and want to know if there is any way to get smartbars for these calculations is that one is missing … Thank’s

  8. Bernhard Says:

No, there is no chance to run Smart-Bars on the Ti-nspire, because as far as I know, the Ti-nspire does not support any assembler languages.

  13. Luís Says:

    Hi, nice program, really good.
Can you tell me how can i insert concentrated forces in a bar?

    Thanks
    Good luck with new projects

  14. Bernhard Says:

What is the meaning behind inputting the support forces manually?

There is a graphic output for element forces and moments.

  15. sp. Says:

Very good job but i have a problem. I work on a ti-89 titanium and when i put the data the program takes them as characters and not as numbers. So before i put any number, i have to press the ALPHA key. How can i solve this?

  16. Bernhard Says:

The program “Auto Alpha-Lock Off” from Kevin Kofler should resolve the problem.
You can find it at: http://www.tigen.org/kevin.kofler/

  17. Steven R. Says:

    Hi Bernhard,
Since Smart Bar uses stiffness matrix method,is there any way (patch or some hidden trick) for tihis program to see those matrices, like K,Qeq,Knn,simply those matrices that are used in this equation.
    Thanks

  18. Bernhard Says:

No, there is no possibility to see the stiffness matrix and the load vector.

  19. Thomas Says:

    I have the following problem,

I’ve got the hw3 patch and the german smartbar program on my ti 89 titanium.
And every time in want to start smartbar() my TI says “Error loading sbinput.dll . I’ve tryed it different times in different ways but nothing worked.

The only thing I don’t understand is do “archieve” the files, I don’t know how to do this. Is this the problem?

    Thank you Thomas

  20. Bernhard Says:

This will be the problem …

You have to go into the “var-link”, mark all Smart-Bars files, then “manage” -> “archive variable”. Afterwards there should be a “*” in front of those variables.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  21. Thomas Says:

Thank you for the fast answer and your great program.

    I works great

  22. Kostas Says:

    Hello
    I have the following problem,
I’ve got the hw3 patch and the german smartbar program on my ti 89 titanium.
Although i was using the app normally, suddenly when i tried to enter to smart bar() (when i tried to enter) it poped-up this message ”ERROR Variable or Flash application in use”.
    What is the problem?
    Please help me!

  23. Bernhard Says:

The only way I know: Reset your calculator.

  24. Paul Says:

Thank you for this awesome programms!
You made my calc serious civil engineering machine.

  25. Paul Says:

Hi! I’ve a problem with this scheme:

    http://i007.radikal.ru/0906/e0/5b3059687bd9.jpg

    From SMART-BARS: http://s59.radikal.ru/i163/0906/22/68bdf12933c6.jpg

After calculation process I see “Forces are zero!” in any graphic.

    What I’m doing wrong?

    Sorry for my bad english.
    Paul.

  26. Paul Says:

PS: Element loads exist in SMART-BARS scheme. I just hided them.

  27. Bernhard Says:

The crossing of the four elements on the right side of the structure is done wrong. You may not surround one node completely by hinges (for moments). Hence the rotational degree of freedom of the node is not coupled to the structure and the evaluation of the solution may fail or give you wrong results. In your case one element has to be fixed to the node without hinge.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  28. Paul Says:

    Thanx! It works.

I’m always doing four hinges in four element crossing on my PC programm (Lira 9.4).

Anyway, thanks again for awesome programm!

    Paul

  29. Stella Says:

Hi, i’ve got a problem with installation. I’ve created a new folder in TI Connect Device named “smartbar”. After this i putted all the objects in this folder. (after i cleared all the archieves and rams)
Now i got a fault information. “error loading sbinput.dll”. What shall i do?

  30. Bernhard Says:

You have to put all files in the “main” folder, otherwise the program won’t be able to find some files.
Check if you have enough free RAM (as told in the manual).

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  31. Anonymous Says:

Obrigado

Ive made reset to the RAM (all RAM), i’ve got “OTHER : 1962B”, RAM FREE 127668, FLASH ROM FREE 1357308. I don’t understand why, having all the requirements, gives me the same error all over again “memory full 8C020017″. can you help me, please? thanks

  32. Bernhard Says:

Sorry, I’ve never seen this error message.
Maybe resetting your calculator may help you.

  33. Johannes Says:

    Hi,
is it possible to add axial forces in z-direction (V) in smart-section v2.50?

    Best regards Johannes from Germany.

  34. Bernhard Says:

No, it’s not possible to add lateral forces in Smart-Section.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  35. Panos Says:

@Bernhard (About the answer you gave to Stella)

Actually, it is not necessary to put the files in “main”. You just have to set the current folder to “smartbar” and the program will work without problems. You can do this from mode/set current folder or something like that.

    Regards,
    Panos

  36. Bernhard Says:

Ok, thanks for the hint Panos.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  37. Christian Says:

Hello. I have the exactly same problem as the one above about the memory. When I try to install, it appears on Ti Connect “Memory Full 8C020017″ but I have currently 120460 free at my RAM and 680000 at my ROM, but mainly the error focues on the file named sbcalc1 that is the biggest. Please Help! I have tried resetting my RAM several times.!

  38. Bernhard Says:

Which calculator model and which software/system version do you have?
Did you try to send each file on its own to the calculator?
Did you ARCHIVE each file immediately after sending it to the calculator (sending all at once would require too much RAM)?

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  39. Pepe Says:

Hey guys, is there any program just like this suitable for the ti-84 silver? I am quite in a hurry.
Thanks and have a nice evening.

    Best

  40. Bernhard Says:

As far as I know - no.
But you could take a look at http://www.ticalc.org/ . Maybe you will find one there.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  41. Pepe Says:

    Thanks a lot Bernhard,

I am having a look at it right now…let’s see what I’ll find.

    Take care

    P

  42. Pepe Says:

    Dear Bernhard,

would you be so kind to send me by email the hw3patch since I am not able to download it from kevin’s page. I am quite in a hurry.

    Thanks mate

  43. cristal Says:

    Hi bernhard,
i have a problem..i put my hyperstatic structure (with a negligible section, so i put a casual section) in smartbar..i pushed ‘calculate’, it worked but then…it didn’t publish results!! or i don’t know where it stored results!!
    please help me!!

  44. Bernhard Says:

Are there no tabular results at all or are they zero?
Maybe you have chosen to non-consistent units, hence the results may be nearly zero.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  45. cristal Says:

    Hi,
after my message, i saw that calculator was ‘busy’…it remained busy for a lot of time…so,i tried to introduce a simple structure (1 element, 2 nodes, a joint and a cart, one nodal force) and it run…but results were ‘forces are zero’, ‘deformations are zero’, all zero…i think units are consistent: beam 10m; section area 0.1 m^2; section Iy 0.1 m^4; section height 0.1m; force 1 KN.
Maybe is it obligatory to introduce an hinge?
What do you think about this problem?

    Thank you for all.

  46. cristal Says:

My structures are all with negligibile section and material (and typically: beam 1 or 2m)
Can you say me any section and material values consistent with this kind of situation?
    thank you..

  47. cristal Says:

    Hi,
i resetted my ti-89 titanium, then i put all smartbar files (i downloaded from this page) in ‘main’ folder (with hw3patch)..then i archives all and i introduced a simple beam ( 2m, 2 supports (-2 & -2 deegres of freedom), section heb300, material steel,1 central force)…i didn’t touch ‘edit’, ‘delete’ and ‘manual section’ cause i read there are bugs…finally i push ‘f5′>’calculate’…BUT GRAPHIC RESULTS ARE ALWAYS ‘forces are zero’, ‘displacements are zero’!!! In tabular results all values are ‘1*’…
    What do you think about?

  48. Bernhard Says:

Try to input the examples in the Smart-Bars FAQ section. Normally the users have problems with the correct input of hinges. With the examples you will learn how to do it the right way.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  49. cristal Says:

    :)
    error was very simple!!
for example, i introduced a vertical force writing Fz=20 but leaving Fx and My like white lines…instead i have to write Fx=0 and My=0!!!i had to specify ‘zero’!!
excuse me, i steal you a lot of time for a banal error!!
Can i ask you a last doubt?
How can i differentiate an internal support from an external one? Or, two elements could be two parts of the same stroke with a central support, but two elements could belong to different strokes separated by a support..how can i explain it to smartbar?

  50. Bernhard Says:

Beam elements are always fixed to each other, except for the case when you add a hinge. That’s the same whether there is a support or not.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  51. cristal Says:

Thank you Bernhard, yesterday i finished my exams…smartbar was fundamental!!
    Thank you so much!!

  52. fabian honduras Says:

  53. fabian honduras Says:

sorry the calc is ati 89 titanium whit the last version

  54. Bernhard Says:

Copy all Smart-Bars files into the “main” folder, then it should work.

  55. Andre Says:

    Hi!

I have a TI 89 Titanium! The Program doesn’t work. It comes the massage ”Mistake: Variable or Flash Appn are aktively”. Furthermore I have install the hw3patch without a change. I’am grateful for every answer.

  56. Bernhard Says:

You may have produced a severe error. I recommend you to reset your calculator. Take care: All data could be lost.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  57. Andre Says:

    Now it works.

    Thank you!!!

  58. Julian Says:

Hola ya tengo instalado el programa ahora lo que pasa es que no se usarlo, quisiera ingresar una viga con dos apoyos una carga uniformente distribuida un momento y una carga puntual. Pero no se como muchas gracias.

  59. Julian Says:

Hello I installed the program and now it’s just not using it, I would enter a support beam with two uniformly distributed load for a moment and a point charge. But not like thank you very much.

  60. Bernhard Says:

Sorry, I don’t know what you want me to say!

  63. Jacob Says:

Hi, im sutudying civil engineering; i sent all files except the .89t ones; i tryed sending one by one and acrchiving inmediately but it doesnt work. When i try to send any of the .89t files apears the next message: “Errors occurred while sending sbarhelp.89T. A distribution list, containing the device(s) which returned an error, was created for each file.”
Then i click on “show history” and there appears the message “the file can not be sent to the selected device because it is intended for a device with a newer OS. update the OS and try again”
My calc is a ti89 tit. My OS version is 3.10 ; rom version 2.02 and hardware version 3.

    Thanks.

  64. Bernhard Says:

I would recommend you to follow the instructions to update the OS. I have no other idea what could be done if this fails.

  66. Ivan Says:

HI, and download the smartbars, I got on my computer, but not as fun to the calculator, then trying to send files, I select it to send to device, such as file transfers, my calculator reads that have those files , But fret not more, please tell me where failure

  70. Pedro Says:

    Hi!

Someone can help me in a problem with a scheme?

    http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/2209/estruturan.jpg

In Smart Bars i do that:

    http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/9499/screen01n.png

When i process de calc , the result is “Forces are zero”.

    What I’m doing wrong?

    Thanks for the help!

  71. Bernhard Says:

You can take a look at the input value in the “edit-> list” menu. Check the data of your input there.

I think there is a problem with the material you defined (material number 7).

    Know bug (see Smart-Bars section):
There is a bug during the input of a “manually generated section”: the material number is not automatically updated. To avoid a wrong material number, you have to select the material number after the input of the “manually generated section” data once more - then it works.

This is also true for the input of a user defined material as far as I remember.

If this is not the error, please give me more information about the input.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  72. Pedro Says:

    Hi Bernhard!

The problem continues. I tried to use the pre-defined sections but still give the same error.

It might be the version I’m using?

It happens to me a few times, even with the examples of the FAQ.

    Thanks

  73. Nikos Says:

Bernhard Hi! After executing the patch (hw3patch) I faced 3 problems:

    1) The file “sboutput” could not be archived

    2) When I tried to execute the “smartbar” appeared the message “Variable or flash application in use”

    3) Although the file “smartbar” appears to exist in the file main of my Ti_89 Titanium (using the TI connect software), it does not exist in the file main of my Ti_89 Titanium.
When I tried to delete it (”smartbar”) from Ti_89 Titanium, using the TI connect software, appeared the message “USB communicatin error: No rigths (8C080010)”
When I tried to replace it (”smartbar”) appeared the message “USB communicatin error: File exists (8C080011)”

Because I have exams, I would appreciate any help you could get me.

    Thanks!!!

  74. Bernhard Says:

1.) Try to send one file at a time to your calculator and archieve them immediately.

2.) & 3.) Maybe you have to reset your calculator - I have no other idea.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  75. nikos Says:

    Bernhard Hi It’s me again

Please could you Wrote me the procedure or send me to the appropriate website in order to reset my calculator (Ti_89 Titanium)?. I’ve tried to aplied the steps of its manual without the desirable results.

    Thanks for your time.

  76. Bernhard Says:

Take a look at the posts in “New Homepage Online” on our web page. There you will find some posts about how to reset your calculator.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  77. Giacomo Says:

how hw3patch work? it is dangerous for ti89?
it is necessary to run smarth program?

    thanks giacomo

  78. Claus Dachselt Says:

    Hi Bernhard,

thanks for all these really “smart” programs. They help every day if a quick
calculation is needed and the PC is far away outside.
If you could fix the bug with the smartbar database if another than the first material is needed would be great….

  79. Jorge Says:

    Hi Bernhard,
In smartbar it´s possible to rotate the support of structure? How can i do it right?
    Thanks a lot

  80. Bernhard Says:

Yes, you can rotate supports in Smart-Bars during the input of supports. The input is in radians as far as I remember but the rotation of the support is not shown in the graphic view of the structure.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  81. manolo Says:

  82. manolo Says:

I have a question on how to enter the SmartBar elastic supports, (springs). As I read in the manual can only be put absolute support, only free or fixed.
If you put a free support in z direction, the reaction in this direction will be 0, but it supports there elácticos reaction. However if you put a fixed support in z the reaction will be different from 0 but will not have a movement due to the spring. So how do you put a support with a spring? Can you put it?
    greetings

(traducted by google i’m so bad at english hahaha)

  83. Bernhard Says:

First define a spring, then assign the spring to the support.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  84. manolo Says:

    Thanks for the answer Bernhard.
i do what you say, but that is not an elastic support. i will explain, For example, if i have a beam with 3 supports: 2 simple supports and a elastic one. i define the spring only in z direction and then i define the support (x->free; z->free and y->free) and asign the spring to the support. if i do that, the reaction in z direction will be zero and in an elastic support the reaction is not zero. otherwise if i do the same but with a support with the z direction fixed the movement will be zero. in an elastic suport the movement in z direction depends on the reaction (v=-y/k)(v=movement, y=reaction and k=spring constant)
    (i don’t know if i’m explaining fine)
    can smartbars do that?
    thanks for all
    (sorry for my english)

  85. Bernhard Says:

If you take a look at example 8 (Smart-Bars FAQ) you will see how to input a spring at a support. I’ve tested the example 8 and it work but when I make a beam wit two supports it does not work anymore. At the time I have no idea what could cause this error - I’ll take a look at the problem later on.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  86. manolo Says:

Thanks for your answer. I input the spring in the support as in the example 8 but the reaction is zero. i’ll wait for your answer
    thanks for all Bernhard

  87. Bernhard Says:

As I said before, I have to take a look at the code to know what’s happening. This can take some time, because I have more important things to do at the time - sorry.

Alternatively you could simulate springs by beam and/or truss elements - a little bit tricky but it works:
    c_u = EA/L
Take for example L = 1m and calculate EA from the upper equation. Input an element with these properties and you have an “elastic support”.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  88. Nadine Says:

    Hallo Bernhard,

wir berechnen im Moment in Statik/Festigkeitslehre Einflusslinien am statischen System. Ist es möglich im smartbar auch Wanderlasten einzugeben um sich die Einflusslinien anzeigen zu lassen?

    Vielen Dank.

  89. Christian Says:

Hello, smartbars is really a nice Tool!

Just one question is it possible to define “singleloads”?

(Wie definiert man Einzellasten welche auf bestimmte Stäbe einwirken?
also ganz klassisch: Kraft F=10N auf Stabmitte in Z-Richtung)

  90. Bernhard Says:

You have to split the element into two elements and apply the load on the node in the middle. One concentrated load one one single element is not possible, only concentrated loads on nodes.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  91. manolis_kakou Says:

Hi! I want to download this program for my ti-ndpire but I can not find it..please help me..thanks!

  92. Bernhard Says:

Sorry, but there exists no version for the TI-Nspire.

  93. manolis_kakou Says:

Thanks! But I have and a ti-nspire 84 plus…Is there any version of the program for this?

  94. Bernhard Says:

    No.

  97. Alessandro from italy Says:

Hi i try to explain my problem in english ( i speak a bad english sorry :-)
when i want to create a material the program said No database found! why?? i have copy all file in one cartel with name smarbar and i have select all and click f1 and 8 (aggiungi variabile).
what i can do?? thank you very much.!

  98. Bernhard Says:

You have to copy all Smart-Bars files to the “main” directory. Otherwise the program does not find the material database.

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  99. Brad Says:

I’m having trouble doing distributed loads - basic ones

“____________” with a triangular load on half the bar and still can’t get it to
    ^ ^

calculate… Linear or Distributed load doesn’t matter..

I’m probably making a simple mistake but trying to understand with the easy ones so I understand how to do it with the more complicated ones..

    Thanks and great program !!!!!

  100. Brad Says:

I tried something fancy to enter the problem with a bar and supports but failed.. Basic beam 2 nodes with supports on both ends and a triangular load from Node a = 0 Node b = 50 on half the beam - just a basic load and nothing works

  101. Bernhard Says:

Try the examples in the “Smart Bars FAQ” section.

Nodes must always be connected with elements (beams or trusses).

    Best regards
    Bernhard Valentini

  102. Paulo Says:

    Hi!

Someone can help me in a problem with a scheme?

    http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/3280/cargaq.jpg

In Smart Bars i do that:

    http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/5959/screen01e.jpg

When i process the calc , the result in Axial Forces in point A is -4,5kN that is incorrect (correct value is -10,5kN

What I’m doing wrong? What i have to do to represent correctly the load in beam AB?

    Thanks for the help!

  103. Bernhard Says:

Your input is correct, but one part of the element load is missing in the result of the axial force of element 1. I assume that I’ve forgotten to consider the case of a global axial element load for the computation of the results of the elements. Hence, thanks for telling us that there is something wrong.

You can compute the right result if you use local element loads instead of the global ones.

Instead of use global element load in beam AB I use local Z element load but the graphic of axial forces continues wrong in result :s

Can you detail information about what i have to do in this case??

    Thanks for attention

  105. Bernhard Says:

You have to use a element load with local x direction for the element from A to B. Further the amplitudes must have a negative sign because the positive local X direction is defined from A to B.

  106. Paulo Says:

    Thanks it works :)
So Wherever I see a load like this i must do like you said? right?
    Thanks again.

  107. Bernhard Says:

Just use local element loads instead of the global ones, then it should be ok.

    Hello!!
Excelent program! It has helped me a lot with my studies, but I have a question-problem: How can i insert a section with infinite moment of inertia (Iy)?

  111. Bernhard Says:

Just set the value of the moment of inertia to a very large value compared to the others, e.g. 1e+6 times the normal value.

    Hi.
I tried to use letters in loads instead of values.. And give me error. It’s possibel use letters instead of values??
    Thanks for the excelent program

  113. Bernhard Says:

No, it is not possible to use variables in one of the Smart-Programs. They require a numerical input.

    ok
    thanks

  115. duarte Says:

when puting the hinges it never asks for tehc oordenates so where does the hinge go?

  116. Bernhard Says:

Hinges must be connected to elements. Take a look at the examples.

  117. duarte Says:

but how do i connect them to the elements, when i go creat-> hinges , it only asks me for the degree of freedom.

    thanks for your help

  118. duarte Says:

oh w8 i found the answer, i need to creat the hinges before the elements.
    ty for the help.

the program doesn’t work without supports? i have some exercises that instead of supports we have nodal charges, but when i put it on smart bars, the program says that the structure inst complete.

  120. Bernhard Says:

There is no chance to input structures without supports on Smart-Bars.

he instalado smart bares en una calculadora TI voyage 200 y al correr el programa. comienzo a crear un estructura y al crear una seccion me aparece ” B. de datos no encontrada! ” quisiera saber si me puede ayudar con ese problema.

  122. Roy Says:

Smart bars installed on a TI Voyage 200 and running the program. I start to create a structure and to create a section I get a “B. Data not found” I wonder if I can help with this problem I really like this program.

  123. Bernhard Says:

You have to copy all Smart-Bars files to the “main” directory. Otherwise the program does not find the material database.

my program works well and I can make any structure and place forces and moments, but when calculating the diagrams and see the program tells me “zero force” and does not generate any graphics. I would appreciate it if I can help.

  125. Bernhard Says:

    Please give me more information.
