Smart-Bars FAQ
Smart-Bars FAQ (frequently asked questions):
Q: I get the message: “Error loading sbinput.dll” - what can I do now?
A: You have to ARCHIVE all Smart-Bars files within the var-link on your calculator, otherwise there is not enough free RAM to run the program. Then the files should be marked with a “*” (dot, star) in front.
Q: Is there a tutorial or examples how to input a structure?
A: Here are some links to examples form Smart-Bars:
http://www.smart-programs.org/smartbars/sbexpl02.html
http://www.smart-programs.org/smartbars/sbexpl03.html

http://www.smart-programs.org/smartbars/sbexpl08.html
Q: I get the error massage: “No material database found”, ” No section database found” - what can I do now?
A: You have to put all Smart-Bars files to the “main” directory on your calculator, otherwise the databases can’t be found by the program.

Please give me a better description what you want to do - I’m not sure what your question is about.

I would like to know how we can introduce a label, and in this same label, introduce a par of concentrated moments(My). the left concentrated moment must be a positive one . and the rigth, a negative one. in this situation they anulate themselves, but in each bar they create moments. In the ’smartbar’ I just can introduce one concentrated moment. when introduce another one in the same label, the program don’t give me the correct results. so, i would like to know how can i resolve that problem.

I think that’s the same question like in “news and Posts” -> “New Hompage Online” -> “Jan Says: October 18th, 2008 at 10:46 pm”.
Read that post and the following ones.

Did you read the FAQ on top of this posts?
Did you read the chapter about installation in the manual?
Check them and if it does not work at all, please give a step by step description about what you did and how many free RAM and ROM you have before and after each step.

i can install the programm but i can’ t install the material data, it didn’t got installed with the programm, when i tryed to do it seperate this error came, i send it to the main directory and also tryed to archivate it, what can i do
Errors occurred while sending sbsecdb.89t. A distribution list, containing the device(s) which returned an error, was created for each file.
January 8th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Try to free as much RAM as possible. Then, copy file by file to your calculator and archive each of them immediately. Take care if you really have enough free RAM and Flash-ROM free.

thank you very much, the problem was that sb could not open the date because of the script. i don’t remember certain but i think ub to v2.0 had to be deleted, so that it starts with materials //: smart-bars v2.o materials…
now it runs,
now i have another question, the programm runs and is always certain with moments and vertical forces but it fales with horizontal forces if i input them together. i have to input them seperate without other forces that i just tryed with single bars and reightangular supports, if the supports are having an angle the horizontal force is wrong angain
what can i do
how to work with notreightangular supports and is it may be better if my calculater is set on radian, are my angle input is wrong if i write 90 (degree), should i write 100 (radian).
sorry for my bad english
thanks for the grate support on this site

Please send me an e-mail with a picture of your first question, so that I can understand what you mean (if you prefer, you can write in German).
All angles in Smart-Bars have to input in radian, so 90 degree is about 1.57 radian. Take care: you have to input a numerical value!

auflagerkraefte A v= 17.32, B v=34.64
die normalkraft ist (stab1) von 0/0 bis 0/4 +30 und bei stab 2 = 0
smartbars gibt mir dafuer andere werte raus
January 17th, 2009 at 6:40 pm

To the first question:
- thx for telling me.
If you input one node load it works, if you use two node loads it does not work. So there seems to be an error in the code if you use two node loads on the same node. One more bug
To your second question:
I think the deformation of the beam was larger than the deformation of the support, so you did not see it.
The rotation of the support is defined around the positive y-axis (like for moments). So if you use a support which is x-free, z-fixed, and y-free and you rotate it by 0.78 rad you have a support which slides on a 45° plane. Test it with a isostatic beam with two supports, rotate the x-free, z-fixed, and y-free support by 0.78 rad and make a node load on this node in horizontal direction.

hey
I can´t send the file “sstrhelp” to my voyage200, appear´s on my pc “incompatible type” when i try to send.
Can any body help

Maybe one of these questions could be helpful:
Did you take the file for the right calculator type?
Did you change the help file on your PC?
Do you have an old OS-version?

That’s too less free RAM!
You have to ARCHIVE all files to get enough free RAM.

hi!
How can I reduce the approximation of the results?
February 3rd, 2009 at 8:40 pm
The only way I can think of:
For your input use units where you get larger results.

Hello…
I have a problem concerning the hinge imput.
when i edit the element and select if the hinge will be on A or B is it possible that the hinge stays on the node or is it gonna stay right next to it????
is it possible to place an hinge exactly on a node??
tanks
April 17th, 2009 at 10:43 am
Hinges are always linked to elements. Making a hinge on one end of an element is (exactly) equal to a hinge at that position at the node. So there is no difference for you - just make it this way.

thamks for the answer.
but sometimes when a place the hinge tha moment diagrams doesn’t apear right. is it because the hinge is bad defined??
tanks
April 17th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
“doesn’t appear right”:
The results always have a numerical error, but normally this error should be negligible small.
Another possibility is, that you chose an unrealistic stiffness of the structure you input and so you get unrealistic results too.
You can send me a description of the structure you input and the way you input it in Smart-Bars (step by step). So I could tell you what’s wrong.

Hi!! i don’t know if this is the right place to do this question, but i would like to know if this program will be available to TI Nspire Cas!
thanks a lot
April 22nd, 2009 at 2:08 pm
No, there is no chance to run Smart-Bars on the Ti-nspire, because as far as I know, the Ti-nspire does not support any assembler languages.

Read about the known bugs on the Smart-Bars site.
Take care that you don’t input illegal things (letters instead of numbers …).

Hello,
I use smartbars on my ti89 titanium and I think it’s a good program! But I find that it makes errore calculating the bending moment values. For example in a simple portal it seems that the reaction moment are not exactly… only for a little… but it’s important in my opinion. Do you find the same problem?
thanks for all!

Please give me the exact input data you chose, then I’ll check it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have looked in the manual, but still cannot figure it out. How do I put these in “one folder” and then archieve them? the calculator manual says to just drag and drop an application, but this doesn’t work either.
November 17th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Take care if you have enough free RAM and Flash-ROM. Then, just drag and drop them with TI-Connect to your calculator (file by file would be best). Archive every file after you have copied it to your calculator. Place all Smart-Programs files in your “main” directory on the calculator.

Hello,
one question how does it work if I want to count on one Momentenpaar?
Just sit on a task force size method.
Thank you.
December 29th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
“task force size method” does not say anything to me.
Take a look at the posts in “New Hompage online” and search for post:
“Bernhard Says:

Maybe this could be the answer to your question.

Bernhard Hi!
Congratulations to Christian and you for this excellent program Smart-Bars, I would also link the direction of their program files on my page.
I would also like make an inquiry on the use, in my region are limited in the use of the program we use it only for reactions and internal forces of links, that because the units we use here s
eg loss on slightly different: in force is not Kn Tn in temperature is not º C and K
and stuff, my question is if you can release the source code? to adapt to our needs and so we can get most out of program issues of displacement of any state of charges to which we are currently limited. thanks
forgiveness is the English translator of google:(
January 9th, 2010 at 12:48 pm
You can add our programs to your web page, but you have to add a link to our web page.
We won’t release the source code yet.

hello!
I have a question:
I dont know how to rotate the supports. in the example #6 the support on the right upper side. is ist unneccesary to rotate it or how can I do it?
thanks you!
February 9th, 2010 at 1:09 pm
In this case it is not necessary to rotate it. If you rotate a support, you have to input the rotation angle in radians.
Best regards
Bernhard Valentini
February 9th, 2010 at 7:15 pm
Okay and how do i rotate the supports? I don’t get the radian thing. I thought 90Degrees are pi/2 in radian… but it does not work!
thank you for your help!
February 10th, 2010 at 11:42 pm
You have to input a numerical values for half pi -> 1.57. Maybe this is the error you made.

Hi, the programm works realy fine for me, but is there a possibility to plot the calculation steps on the screen?

Sorry, that is not implemented and would not help you anything without the numbering of the degrees of freedom.

Mfg
February 24th, 2010 at 1:27 pm
Bernhard Valentini
February 24th, 2010 at 11:56 pm
February 25th, 2010 at 1:36 am

Hello,
i also got one question, namely how to account if i got 3 bars in one hinge?
March 9th, 2010 at 9:23 pm
You have to make two elements linked to the shared node with a hinge and the third element without a hinge.

Hello, i’ve installed Smartbar on my Ti-89 Titanium..but when i try to use it:
smartbar()
appears: ERROR: Variable or Flash Application in use
i’ve deleted all Smartbar more than once. but still have this problem, when i go to VAR-LINK, i can’t find “smartbar” variable . and also still showing :
ERROR: Variable or Flash App.. in use.
Best regards.
March 22nd, 2010 at 1:54 pm
Try to reset your calculator and remove all batteries (large and small ones) for some hours and install the programs again. Take care all data will be lost!
Try to keep Smart-Bars in your main directory, because otherwise it won’t work correctly.

Hello,
excellent program. It has helped me a lot with my studies, but I have a problem-question:
How can I add a section with infinite moment of inertia (Iy)?
August 26th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
Hi Bernhard,
how is it possible to put a Element load on a Element, but not all over it?
August 26th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
You have to split the element into several elements. To this end you have to generate several elements:
|vvvvvv|
x———–x———-x———–x
x … node
— … element
|vvv| … element load
